Q : Do I need to make an appointment ?
A : Not normally - However, if you are doing a Glucose Tolerance Test it would be recommended.
   
Q : How long do I have to wait to have my TB skin test read?
A : Routinely, less than a 5 minute wait.
   
Q : Do you do "Paternity" testing?
A : Since this test is not available in Bakersfield, we will draw and forward the test to an outside testing facility.
   
Q : How long do I have to fast for a glucose test?
A : A minimum of 8 hours.
   
Q : Can I take my medication when the Doctor tells me to fast?
A : Yes. Always take any medications that are part of your routine unless your doctor indicates differently.
   
Q : Can I drink coffee when fasting?
A : No, coffee may interfere with the testing.
   
Q : What are your hours?
A : Monday-Friday 6:30am - 6:00pm, Saturday 8:00am - 12:00pm.
   
Q : I have an out of town Doctor. Can I come to your lab?
A : Yes
   
Q : Do you fax results to Doctors?
A : Yes
   
Q : Where are you located?
A : We have several locations in Bakersfield, Delano, Mt. Mesa, Central Coast, and Southern California. You may check our Web site at www.pallab.org for times and maps.
   
Q : Do you do home draws? How much do you charge?
A : Yes. If insurance does not cover the draw, our charge is based upon distance and time spent on the draw.
   
Q : How long will it take my Doctor to get my results?
A : Typically within 24 hours if the test is performed at PAL. 99% of all tests are done at PAL. However, if the test is sent to a reference lab, it can take a week or longer.
   
Q : Do I need a Doctor's referral for a cholesterol, lipid, or pregnancy test?
A : No, but the patient must pay for the test.
   
Q : Can I get my results, or do I have to call my Doctor?
A : Only a pregnancy test, when ordered by the patient, can be given to the patient. If the test was ordered by a doctor or clinic, we can not give out the results to the patient.
   
Q : The Doctor's office is closed and I need my results now. What can I do?
A : Contact the doctor's exchange and request to speak with the doctor on call.
   
Q : I do not have insurance. Do I have to pay upfront, or can I be billed?
A : Patients with no insurance can pay upfront and get a discount on testing. If you choose to have us bill you, then retail price is charged.
